Greg Bishop

In 1991, Greg Bishop co-founded a magazine called The Excluded Middle, which was a journal of UFOs, conspiracy research, psychedelia and new science.

Wake Up Down There!, a collection of articles from the magazine, was published in 2000 by Adventures Unlimited Press.

Greg’s second book was Project Beta: The Story of Paul Bennewitz, National Security, and the Creation of a Modern UFO Myth which documented a government campaign of disinformation perpetrated against an unsuspecting U.S. citizen. Weird California, a portrait of strange and eerie history and places in the Golden State, was released in 2006.

UFO Mystic with Greg Bishop and Nick RedfernFrom December 2007 to November 2011, Greg blogged for the UFO and paranormal site Ufomystic. His current book It Defies Language, is composed for the most part of entries from that blog along with older material and brand new articles written just for the collection.

From 1998 to 2000, Greg hosted The Hungry Ghost, a radio show of interviews and music airing on pirate FM station KBLT in Los Angeles. Radio Misterioso has been broadcasting almost continuously since then, for many years on the internet station Killradio before moving to an independent format in mid-2016.

He is licensed by the FAA to fly aerial photography drones for commercial clients, and is also a certified paraglider and ultralight pilot as well as holding a private pilot’s license.

    Hi Greg,
A few years back, you did a radio interview on topics about how the material for the 2 bombs built and delivered to the Japanese had possibly come from the German programs. That the US had problems with the workings of the bombs, until we had ended the war in Europe and gotten our hands on these German materials, thus completion of the bombs could be made.
Do you recall the person you interviewed and are the audios available? I believe there were 2 audios for this interview.

    Greg-
Are you planning to do more episodes of Radio Mysterioso?

    • spacebrother23510 says:

Yes. I’m doing them live almost every Sunday from 8-10 PM at killradio.org. Still reapairing the site for downloads. Hacker attack last month.

  3. Steve says:

    Greg —

Just finished PROJECT BETA last night and lemme tell ya, I thought it was a fantastic book. I learned a lot and it has got to be one of the most underrated book dealing with the UFO mythos.

I’m a huge fan of Radio Misterioso, and I just want to say thanks for doing the show. It means a lot to your fans.

Would you ever consider doing a show on Armen Victorian (one of his many names)? I find this character fascinating, and the mini-doc made about him is nearly impossible to find.

    Anyway, keep it up, amigo.

    -Steve

    • Greg says:

      Steve,
      Thanks for the kind words.

I’ve talked to people who know Victorian, but the signal-to-noise ratio is so high there that I consider him an interesting personality rather than a good source of info. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t come up with any, but it’s not enough to interest me.

      • steve says:

Dude — I took the EXCLUDED MIDDLE ANTHOLOGY with me on a week long a vacation. Easily the best vacation book I’ve ever read. I really wish it was still around, man. Seriously. It’s going to be my new birthday gift to my friends.

I live in Los Feliz, and if you’d ever be willing to let a fan pick your brain, there would be a delicious lunch of your choosing in it for you.

Keep up the great work, amigo.

        -Steve

        • Greg says:

          Steve,

Thanks for the kind words. I got tired of producing the magazine and it did what I wanted it to, which was got my feet wet in writing about this stuff and interviewing people I wanted to talk to.

I hope your friends are actually interested in all the strangeness in the book!

If you write to my email address (greg@radiomisterioso.com) we can meet up for lunch sometime, sure. I actually play golf at the Los Feliz course once in awhile.

          Best,

          Greg

Greg, I’ve been a devoted listener for about a year now, keep up the great work. you have the best show by far, even better than coast to coast. Any news on when you will be listing any new shows for download?

    thanks, Steve-C.

    • Greg says:

      Steve,

If I could host C2C, that would be one of my dream jobs, but I would probably be fired within a week. I will be posting two shows in the next few days. Sorry about the delay in posts and thanks for you patience.

Greg, is your interview with Ira Einhorn available for listening?

  8. Frank says:

I’ve been listening to archived episodes for a few months now, and love them all! I started listening to Art Bell back in the day, and discovered Mysterious Universe and Paranormal Podcast a few years ago. Recenty found Paracast, and they mentioned you (something about only having 47 listeners? well, make it 48). Anyway, I’ve deleted all of the other podcasts from my phone and have loaded up on RM. Just finished the Cora Stanton episode – OMG! What an awesome show 🙂 Crowley, railroads, poison, Arrowhead, ley lines, Hecate, spiritualists; everything I love in one place. I can’t thank you enough for posting all of your shows and staying active. I love the show, the intro, the sirens, the iffy microphones and the healthy skepticism combined with genuine curiosity. Rock on, Greg!

  9. Mike B says:

I liked your youtube presentation in Roswell, good recap of the situation. I’m still studying this ufo stuff. Lost your number, keep in touch. The movies you like usually don’t make any money so I know you’ll like this from 1971: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upblxXgMaQ8

  10. Steve-C says:

Greg, we need some new podcasts. I’m starting to go through withdrawals from lack of new Radio Misterioso programs. 🙂

    thanks, steve c.

  11. Steve-C says:

Greg, is there anyway you can update us devoted listeners on the show once a week to let us know if there is a live show or who the guest is or if you’re out of town. thank you very much and keep up the great work!

    • Greg says:

      Steve,
I try and keep the “Upcoming Guests!” window at the right side of the page updated. I will rename it “Latest News” or something an try to be more diligent. Sorry about the recent neglect!

  12. Brian R says:

    Hi Greg,

I have a question I’d like to ask you about a past Radio Misterioso show, but I’d prefer not to post this question publicly. Nothing weird – it’s about a subject you discussed that I’ve never seen anything written about online or in print before. I tried emailing your radiomisterioso address, but my email couldn’t be delivered. Is there another way I can email you with my question?

    Thanks Greg!

  13. Kevin Barrett says:

Hi Greg, I recently read Project Beta and was favorably impressed. Any chance you could join me on my radio show? http://TruthJihadRadio.blogspot.com

As of now, all 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 pm Pacific MWF slots are open beginning May 3rd.

Also, if you could spare a review copy of Wake Up Down There I’d be grateful. I’d be happy to reciprocate with one or more of my books.

    • Greg says:

Sure. I work a normal shift, so it would be difficult to do the show live. Write me back at greg@radiomisterioso.com and we’ll work something out. I don’t have any more copies of Wake Up Down There (except a couple I keep for myself) sorry.

  14. Enzo says:

Hi Greg, loved your latest show with A.J. That is great radio. A lot of good insight and amusement going on. I loved the hipster Mothman bit. Great stuff.

I sure would like to hear him as a regular guest. Keep up the good work.

    Enzo

  15. Enzo says:

    Hey Greg,

I just heard a podcast that featured the ‘Trasformation of America’ with the author woman you spoke of. She seemed pretty much normal and friendly. You might want to check it out. It is on a podcast called ‘FreemanTV.com’ and the episode is called ‘Sandyhook and mind control.’

You might also want to interview this Freeman character. He’s got some very entertaining ideas. Oh, the Transformation woman and Freeman seem to recommend marijuana as a defense against the New World Odor!!!!????

  16. Derek says:

Hi Greg, just like to say that I really enjoy your podcasts – when is the next one due out? Please keep up the great work. All the best, Derek

  17. Lou Sheehan says:

I have a complaint! You need to (i) do more new shows and (ii) post more old shows.

  18. Ally says:

    Hi Greg,

Miss hearing new interviews from you. Hope all is well and thanks for making such interesting programs!

  19. Fahrusha says:

    Hi Greg,
I have been listening to Radio Misterioso for awhile now through a download on iTunes. I have usually enjoyed it a lot. I must say that I really loved the Humanoids episode with Albert Rosales. I am also enormously entertained by the stories, be they true or not, such as the beige terrycloth banana figures.
It has occurred to me that these transdimensional beings (if that is what they are) are possibly smarter than us in ways we cannot conceive with our monkey brains and may project to our minds the image that they want us to see, rather than what they actually look like. They may be able to read our minds and use our mammalian evolutionary function of sleep paralysis to control us so we are unable to resist or harm them.
Am I nuts, maybe. But no more so than most. 🙂 This is just one hypothesis in my theoretical cosmology.
    Keep up the good work.
    Fahrusha

  20. Bill Burt says:

    Hi Mr. Bishop,
Is it possible to get Albert Rosales and Lon Stricker (and his radio cast team) together or separately as interviews. Also arrange a show with Chica Bruce again.
    Thanks Mr. Bishop.

    Bests,
    Bill

  21. Deric Phillips says:

Hi! I listen to your podcast pretty regularly, and I’ve also read your wonderful book Project Beta. I’m a big fan of your work and your philosophy concerning paranormal happenings. One thing I’ve heard you suggest on several of your shows is for researchers to make records of contactee/abductee statistics such as blood type.

There’s a guy named Joe Montaldo who I believe has appeared on Coast to Coast several times and who also hosts his own podcast called UFO Undercover. He is a self-professed abductee and runs an organization called ICAR (International Community for Alien Research). Much of what he states about the “true” nature of alien abductions, agendas, and general “facts” about the various alien species would probably be highly incompatible with your own ideas, but the reason I’m mentioning him is because he claims ICAR has been doing exactly what you suggested about tracking abductee blood types.

I wish I had a direct link to some kind of article or something where he states some of his group’s findings, but you can look up his podcast if you’d be interested in looking into what he claims to have found. From what I recall from some of his shows, it seems that people with O blood types are by far the most common abductees, with a disproportionate number showing up in South America.

    Keep up the great work!

    Deric

    • Greg says:

Thanks for the compliments. I know about Joe. I’ve talked with him in the past. Maybe I can get hm on the show to talk about his work. I don’t completely agree with some of Peter Robbins’ abductee views either, but I will respect and let him air his opinions, because I don’t have his experiences and he seems reasonably balanced and open-minded.

  22. Bruce Duensing says:

    Greg
I have been a stealth admirer of your work for some time now as I was with the late Mac Tonnies and unfortunately the number of public figures with an intelligent perspective that qualifies as an agnostic approach to the subject is ( in my opinion ) less than a handful.
The purpose of this comment is one of appreciation for your work which from my own experience is often an uphill challenge in consideration of our culture.
That being said, I wish you all the best in keeping a dialog on what could be called the charismatic and liminal frontier of exploration of a highly exploited and yet vital set of issues the subject contains.
    A sense of humor helps.

    • Greg says:

      Hello Bruce,

I remember you from your astute comments at UFOmystic and from your blog, which I always enjoyed. I don’t know if you would be interested in an interview here sometime, but if you are, give me a holler.

      Best,

      Greg

  23. john inglis says:

    Hi Greg,
What a rare ufological gem your Dulce talk with Greg Valdez was. Two extremely knowledgeable people cutting a swathe through the usual quagmire of disinformation and really taking a UFO avenue forward.

Is your book Project Beta and Greg’s book Dulce Base the best source for understanding Paul Bennewitz’s information? I think you said he is a hundred percent if you take aliens out of the equation.

Do you have any links or books re some quotes from that show?
“Understand NIDS and you’ll understand all of it.”
“Follow the research these people have done, [I can’t remember which!] it will give you a good idea of what’s really going on.”

Have you ever managed to get Nick Pope on your show?

Keep up the great work, many thanks, John

I’ve been looking for a chat-interview that Nick Redfern posted a link for here:

    http://nickredfernfortean.blogspot.co.il/2014/12/roswell-slides-radio-and-more.html

I haven’t been able to find the interview. Could you point me to the link?

    Best wishes.

  25. Peter says:

Thanks greatly for the show (in my case consumed as podcasts), which I’ve enjoyed for some time. Something that has surprised me a lot, considering many of your interviewees seem around my age, is that I cannot remember any of your guests ever mentioning the tv show “In search of…” which was my first introduction to the paranormal. A nice aspect of some of the recent tributes for Leonard Nimoy upon his passing has been some references to this show (which ran twice as long as the original Star Trek did).

    • Greg says:

      Peter,
We may have mentioned “In Search Of…” Strangely, as immersed as I was in the fortean/ crypto/ UFO thing as I was at that age, the program seemed like the most natural thing to have on TV. I watched it like a fiend.

  26. Steve Donoso says:

    Hi Greg,

Is there a way I can get the complete Excluded Middle interview with Keith Thompson? The interview on the site says it is an excerpt. Many thanks.

    • Greg says:

You can either buy “Wake Up Down There!” which is an anthology of the magazine (pages 133-138) or I can try and find the interview and scan it.

  27. Nate says:

    Hi Greg,

Just recently started listening to Radio Misterioso and absolutely love it. Keep up the great work!

Your 06/16/15 Tribute to Bruce Duensing show is particularly challenging. I have questions and comments that span the length of the podcast, but I’ll spare you.

I’m commenting (email isn’t working) to find out the artist/track of the SECOND song that plays AFTER Cafe Tacuba’s, Olita del Altamar. It’s an instrumental and Shazam is failing miserably.

    Thanks!
    Nate

    • Greg says:

      Glad you enjoy it.
The Duensing ideas are very challenging. I think the basic idea is that we need to look at the main instruments we use to gather UFO reports, which are the human mind and senses,

      • Nate says:

Once we commit to a single explanation, we deny the other possibilities. Truly these possibilities must be endless, but we love our categorical boxes. Very frustrating indeed.

But Greg, please… I was commenting to find out the outro music you played for that 06/16/15 Duensing show. I would love to know the artist/track of the SECOND song that plays AFTER Cafe Tacuba’s, Olita del Altamar. It’s an instrumental.

        Thank You!
        Nate

        • Greg says:

I’ll have to ask Robert. I think it’s a song that Bruce Duensing liked.

          • Nate says:

I would be eternally grateful. Music has always been such a big part of my life and I know what I like when I hear it. I keep listening to that instrumental and would love to know its’ origins.

            Thanks Again!
            Nate

  28. PJ says:

    Greg,
Don’t know who you interviewed last night (10/18/2015) since I came in late to the show and didn’t catch his name and it’s not listed on the RM website, but the man was brilliant and definitely needs to come back. Haven’t heard someone this knowledgeable and fascinating in a while!

Maybe you can do a monthly chat with him the way Linda Moulton Howe does on C2CAM? Just a suggestion, and keep up the great work.

  29. ko-nspiracists says:

    Hi Greg,

Is there a snail-mail address we can send you a cassette? There’s a whole story behind
this (see attached doc). It explains why it’s on cassette and not digital.
We tried emailing you, but got a message saying your inbox is full.

    Thanks!

  30. ko-nspiracists says:

Oops… that was a copy of the email we sent, so no attachment here, obviously. The cassette contains transmissions from the Ko people, inhabitants of a moon orbiting a distant planet, sent to Earth through an intermediary.

Hi Greg. I just finished Greg Valdez’s book and am about tobegin Project Beta per his recommendation.

I was disappointed to discover his website that had more detailed information is no longer there. Would You know if any of that information still exists online? If not, would You know how I could contact Mr. Valdez to possibly obtain that information?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Greg says:

      Hey Russ,
Thanks for your interest in my book!

I do not know if the Greg Valdez site is now elsewhere, or just went down when they didn’t renew. I see the domain is now on sale for $2500.

I have not contacted Greg in over three years and don’t have current info for him. What did you specifically want to know?

There is a contact request page at the Gabe Valdez memorial site: http://www.gabevaldez.com/contact.php

    Hi Greg,
Congrats on an excellent essay in Robbie’s new book. It reminded me that I would very much like to read your own anthology “It defies Language!”. From what I’ve seen your book appears to be an intelligent and well-needed contribution to improving the debate and nature of UFO research.

I have been committed to serious UFO research and investigation and would like to promote any contribution that contributes substantially to that focus.

Therefore are you able to send me a copy of your book for review – either paper form (which I prefer) or PDF or similar form.

Among a range of other forums, including my blog, I write regular columns for the e-magazine “UFO Truth” (“The Oz Files”) and the Australian magazine “Ufologist” (“Science and the UFO controversy”)

    Best wishes from Oz,

  39. Jesse Randell says:

    Hi Greg,
I found you and your publications in the process of doing research for myself on the Bennewitz case. I remember coming across it years ago in the 1990’s and we all thought that it sounded like disinformation campaign back then. As a former resident of Albuquerque New Mexico, I can vouch for all the weird stuff that goes on in Four Hills even now. I had a friend growing up whose backyard property line was the fence for KAFB.
    Anyway I have stories.
I appreciate what you guys are doing. I agree that we have to reframe the debate on the phenomenon.

    Cheers!
